( it's been a few days since the spaceship crash, marked both by disappearances and arrivals. ahiru and a few others are gone, but gil's here, and so is of all people glen baskerville, and if that isn't alarming - terrifying, worrisome, all the worse in some ways because he is being neutral and stoic and almost friendly and nothing like a man who could casually send a city full of people to their deaths - well. he's inclined to distance these days, wanting to protect or at least not hurt by his very presence, like has happened far too much already, but there's little use when nothing's happened. funny how he was almost comforted by leo's presence less than a day after he allowed jabberwock to nearly kill him along with the initiative member, but a placid glen baskerville keeps him on edge.
two of jabberwock in the city, even, and he's not afraid and he doesn't think black wings can reach the abyss here, but that doesn't guarantee anything. the baskervilles, the girl at the academy had said, were ordered to kill everyone, and that'd been by chains or more mundane methods.
they're the only two baskervilles in the city - but that can change.
in any case, he owes an apology. )
Katniss? ( he hesitates, then considers the possibility she may not answer at all and hurries on: ) I'm sorry about the other day.
[Maybe things had turned out all right, relatively, after the spaceship crash. No one had been hurt, despite how bad things had looked from the outside. The housing reassignments aren't objectionable either; rather than having to share living space with complete strangers, she can keep a better eye on the two people she needs to the most.
But there's one thing that's not all right today. And that thing is this: Oz calling her up like this, offering her the weakest apology possible.
[She's about to hang up-- no, correction, she's about to repeat her performance from months ago of throwing her tablet against the wall, when something makes her stop. Literally, her arm, poised to throw, freezes in midair.
Whatever that something is, the world will never know. Because she doesn't even know herself.
After a time, she finally lowers the tablet to a position where it's more comfortable to speak, and with that, makes a decision to acknowledge that he's said anything to her. Acknowledge, not accept.]
( do something heroic! or, more likely, die or something. )
I didn't think about that. When the vessel went down, the only thing I was thinking about were the people I thought were still in it. ( and, thank everything, weren't ) ...but that's still stupid. Even if they were, I couldn't have done anything about it.
["Stupid" is an understatement. The understatement of the fucking century, let's be real here. That's the main point to be pulled out of that, and all she really needs to know.]
You weren't thinking at all. [She's such a nice little ray of sunshine 8D]
[Not exactly the reaction she was expecting. And it's not actually funny. At all. Right now, though, she can't bring herself to be angry about it.]
And it was really stupid.
[Because, in some ways, this is starting to feel eerily like a conversation she might've had with Prim when they were younger. Before Prim had grown up entirely too fast right before her eyes, when she still needed her guidance.]

You were wrong.

I was! I really was. It was stupid of me.
voice;
What did you even think you were going to do? [Aside from, you know, die. Or something.]

( understand. there's a question hovering just at the tip of his tongue, though not one he dares give voice to just yet.
why do you care? )
I really am sorry. To still be making mistakes like this...and I caused you problems too, didn't I?
( TO MAKE HER SO MAD and also get mad at her 8( )
